Abstract
This research aims to develop a monitoring and control system for a solar-powered drying facility using Internet of Things (IoT) technology for the coffee bean drying process, in order to reduce the drying time. Real-world data was collected from the production process to analyze the causes of delays using flowcharts and fishbone diagrams. It was found that the delay was caused by manual inspection of coffee bean quality and the lack of equipment to monitor moisture and temperature in the drying facility. As a result, the drying process took an average of 21 days and maintaining quality was difficult. To address this issue, the ECRS (Eliminate, Combine, Rearrange, Simplify) principle was applied to improve the coffee bean drying process. A system using IoT technology was developed to monitor temperature, humidity, and electricity usage via smartphone, with data recorded on a cloud platform. Additionally, the system can control the ventilation fan to reduce moisture, which helps shorten the drying time. The results showed that the drying time was reduced to an average of 13 days, a 37.95% reduction. This improvement enhances production efficiency, ensures more consistent coffee bean quality, and reduces production losses. Moreover, the system can be adapted for other agricultural processed products as well.
