Abstract

This research aimed to study of mathematical creativity and attitude toward mathematics of students by using open approach in mathematics. The target group consisted of 44 students prathomsuksa 5/1 in the second semester of 2021 academic year from Ban Sungaiko-lok School. It was selected by a class that the researcher manages to learn and a class that focuses on the students' special abilities in science and mathematics. This research was a qualitative research by protocol analysis coupled with analysis description in describing the student's creativity that arises and This research was a quantity research to analyze students' attitude toward mathematics. The research instruments were (1) the lesson plan by open approach, 10 plans. The Learning management was spent for 10 hours. (2) attitude test towards mathematics (3) Field Note (4) video and photo recording using ShareX program and (5) the students' performance. The data were analyzed using the criteria are measured and assessed according to Torrance's creativity implications, which a full score of 3 points in each aspect. The results of the study revealed that the 1. A study of students' mathematical creativity by using open approach in mathematics when considering the components of creativity in each aspect, it was found that 1.1 The Elaboration with the highest average score 1.88 where students are planning systematic thinking write their own ideas on the math activity sheet along with explaining how to think based on mathematical principles that are appropriate and consistent with the problem situation. 1.2 The Fluency with the average score of 1.84 where students try to come up with an appropriate answer and write their own ideas on the math activity sheet for several answers to the given open-ended problem situations within the specified time. 1.3 The Originality with the average score of 1.62 where students choose the mathematical principles that are appropriate for the problem situation. Only a handful of students in the entire class chose this method by relying on their own experiences and prior knowledge to solve problems Therefore, the method is unique. 1.4 The Flexibility with the lowest average score 1.88 where students try to organize groups of solutions or ideas. Most of them appear to have two groups of ideas for solving problems from the given open-ended problem situation. 2. A study of students' attitude toward mathematics by using open approach in mathematics found that open approach promotes a positive attitude towards mathematics. The students feel excited, enthusiastic, fun and confident in solving math problems when the teacher gives an encourage and suggests to solve problems. They proud when they succeed to solve math problems by themselves. Therefore, students like to study mathematics and they’re very glad to apply this knowledge in their daily life.
