The objective of this study was to investigate factors associated with the 30-day readmission of pneumonia patients after hospitalization in Yala Hospital. This study used data from pneumonia patients admitted to Yala Hospital from 2013 to 2020. This data consists of three parts: 1) the patients' backgrounds, which included age, gender, race, religion, province, and health insurance, 2) Comorbidities and procedures; and 3) hospital factors, including hospital costs, length of stay, and discharge type. The outcome was readmission within 30 days with pneumonia. The association between the determinants and outcome was examined by using chi-squared tests. Logistic regression was used to identify the potential risk factors for 30-day readmission for pneumonia. The study found that the overall rate of readmission within 30 days with pneumonia was 6.7%. Male patients were 1.28 times more likely to be readmitted within 30 days than those female patients. An age group less than 1 year was 3.52 times more likely to be readmitted within 30 days than those age groups more than 3 to 62 years. The patients from Yala province were 1.45 times more likely to be readmitted within 30 days than those patients from another province. Pneumonia patients who need oxygen were 1.41 times more likely to be readmitted within 30 days than pneumonia patients who did not need oxygen. Patients with UC were 1.40 times more likely to be readmitted within 30 days than other health insurance. Patients who stayed more than 9 days in the hospital, 5 to 9 days, and more than 3 to 5 days were 3.81, 2.10, and 1.34 times more likely to be readmitted within 30 days than those who stayed less than 3 days, respectively. Patients with discharge with approval were 2.37 times more likely to be readmitted within 30 days than other discharge type.
