Abstract

Cytogenetics of 3 amphibian species nearby Hala-Bala Forest nearby, in Yala Province, namely smooth-skinned warted tree frog (Theloderma licin), Malayan dark-side frog (Sylvirana malayana) and Larut cascade frog (Amolops larutensis). Chromosomes were prepared directly from bone marrow by using the direct method of injection of colchicine solution. Conventional chromosome staining and NOR banding to study the number, type, and size of chromosomes. The study found that the number of diploid chromosomes (2n) in 3 species of amphibians is 26, 26, and 24, respectively. The fundamental number of chromosomes (NF) is 52, 52, and 48, respectively. The karyotype formula can be deduced as follows: T. licin has 2n (26) = Lm4+Lsm6+Sm12+Ssm4 S. malayana has 2n (26) = Lm2+Lsm6+Mm2+Sm10+Ssm4+Sa2 and A. larutensis has 2n (24) = Lm6+Lsm4+Mm2+Sm8+Ssm2+Sa2. NOR banding in S. malayana and T. licin revealed one pair of chromosomes containing the NOR position on the 11th long arm near the centromere and telomere and the 12th long arm near the centromere of small metacentric chromosome. This study can be used as a guideline for conservation, breeding and evolution.
