Abstract
The main study aimed to investigate farmer's needs of an extension
methods for chili production and the relationship between personal characteristics, socio-economic conditions, chili production, the extension methods of chili production and farmer's needs of extension methods for chili production in Ranot District, Songkhla Province. The population of the study was 757 chili farmers in Ranot District, Songkhla Province. The sample size was 262 households. Data were collected by using the structured interview. Data analyzed by using mean, standard deviation and test the relationship using Pearson's Product Moment Correlation. It was found that the average age of farmers was 47.74 years old, experienced in chili production average 4.73 years, chili production area average 2.70 rai, an average household income was 114,048.09 baht per year, income from chili production average 51,583.97 baht per year. The chili production found that the farmers grow the highest number of the Big chili in 82.80 percent, the age of the seedlings average 55.71 days, labor for chili production averaged 21.71 persons and the most labors hired labor in harvesting average 17.64 persons. The average production cost of chilli is 61,261.45 baht per rai, the yield average 932.11 kilograms per time of harvest. In 2018, the price of yield was 32.47 baht per kilogram. The problem of chili production of farmers at a high level is selling products (average 2.48) production costs (average 2.21) and lack of academic knowledge (average 1.73). Most farmers have never received the extension of chili production. The source of knowledge of chili production came from the own experiences (average 1.92). Farmer's needs of an extension methods for chili production in groups such as training and transferred through community leaders or agricultural group leaders rather than other methods (average 2.43). The correlation analysis of variables found that the average income in the household was positively correlated with the needs of the extension methods for chili production of farmers at the statistical significance level of 0.05. Therefore, the extension method in chili production for farmers that should be the group method such as training, meetings and transfer through the leader of community or agricultural group.
