Abstract

The study aimed to examine promoting self-esteem in elder people with depression through online games, develop original online games and evaluate the result of depression of elder people after playing online games. The samples were from healthcare centre of southern elderly club, Songkhla hospital by selecting purposive method. Eighteen elder people with depression participated to play online games, approximately 8 weeks (3 times a week and 15 minutes each). Evaluation of depression with 9Q of department of mental health was conducted to assess before and after playing online games. The instruments of the study comprised record forms of personal data, evaluation of depression with 9Q of department of mental health and online games as developed by self-esteem theory in three aspects: 1) Significance; 2) Competence; and 3) Virtue. The result was found that after playing online games (X = 7.44, S.D. = 1.29), the average scores of depression of elder people were more decreasing than before playing online games (X= 9.61, S.D. = 1.19). In conclusion, depression of elder people after playing online games was decreased 22.14%.
