Abstract

The aims of this research encompass threefold: firstly, to assess the current status of efforts towards achieving sustainable development goals in the water domain of Narathiwat Province; secondly, to identify obstacles hindering these endeavors; and thirdly, to propose guidelines for advancing these operations. Utilizing a qualitative research methodology, data collection involved in-depth interviews with 21 key informants, with analysis conducted through an inductive approach. The key findings of the study are outlined as follows.At the local level, initiatives align with national policy directives, with Narathiwat Province adopting Ministry of Interior policies to drive sustainable development efforts. These efforts are structured around 17 overarching goals, 169 sub-goals, and 248 indicators. However, the study identified a lack of clear guidelines specifically pertaining to water management in Narathiwat Province. Operational challenges include deviations from planned activities, inadequate coordination among diverse agencies, duplication of efforts, ambiguous mission delineation, turnover among responsible parties, and legal constraints. Recommendations arising from this research advocate for enhanced integration and collaboration spanning from policy formulation to grassroots implementation. Decentralization is proposed to empower local governments with the authority to execute sustainability initiatives within their jurisdictions. Furthermore, fostering greater engagement from diverse stakeholders across sectors is deemed imperative for effective water management. Such measures are envisaged to catalyze progress towards sustainable development goals within the region.??????????????????????????????????
