Abstract

This study was a cross-sectional descriptive research using mixed methods. The objectives of this study was 1) to explore the guidelines for the development of Thai Traditional Medicine service model in Thai Traditional Medicine clinic of educational institutes in Southern Thailand. The study was conducted during January - May, 2018. A total of 278 respondents were divided into 2 groups which included 250 service users and 28 Thai Traditional Medicine service providers and practitioners. The data were collected by using questionnaire and in-depth interview. The obtained data was analyzed using the descriptive statistics and content analysis in quantitative and qualitative study, respectively. The results revealed that Thai Traditional Medicine service model in Thai Traditional Medicine clinic of educational institutes consisted of 7 aspects: 1) Service Delivery; there were the diagnosis using Thai Traditional Medicine, massage therapy, postpartum care, proactive community collaboration, promotion and conservation of folk medicine wisdom, academic training center and research development. 2) Health Information System; computer systems were used in public relations and recording medical records. 3) Health Workforce; there were Thai Traditional Medicine services by doctors with medical certificates and assistants who have trained by the institutions accredited by the Thai Traditional Medical Council. 4) Assess to Essential Medicine; that other Thai Traditional Medical procedures were promoted and encouraged and there were customized medicine recipes administration and the production of standard herbal medicines for use within the health facilities. 5) Financing; there were adequate funding sources and the cost- benefit analysis of the services should be performed. 6) Leadership; the supervisors should be the Thai Traditional Medicine professionals or those who graduated from the institutions accredited by the Thai Traditional Medical Council. 7) Facility and Environment; the health facilities should be clean and have adequate facilities for the elderly and the disabled. Conclusion and Suggestion: The guidelines for the development of Thai Traditional Medicine service model in Thai Traditional Medicine clinic of educational institutes could be applied to Thai Traditional Medicine facilities at other level with similar context and contributed to the recommendation for administrators in the determination of policies and the further development of Thai Traditional Medical service systems.
