Abstract
This research aims to study factors influencing retention of registered nurses in
private hospitals at Hatyai District, Songkhla Province. The factors under investigation were job characteristics, perceived organizational support, and transformational leadership. A questionnaire was used as an instrument for collecting data. The participants consisted of 375 registered nurses who have worked more than 1 year and work full time in private hospitals at Hatyai District, Songkhla Province that divided into 91 people of Rajyindee Hospital, 172 people of Bangkok Hatyai Hospital, and 112 people of Sikarin Hospital. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis.
The research revealed that the perceived job characteristics and perceived
organizational support of registered nurses showed at the highest level while the transformational leadership of supervisors and retention of registered nurses showed at a very high level.
Transformational leadership was the only one factor that has significantly influence on the retention of registered nurses.
From the research findings, top management should pay attention to the
transformational leadership by encouraging supervisors to support and appreciation registered nurses when they complete their work. This method will make the registered nurses satisfied and make them have higher retention at work.
