Abstract
The objectives of this research were to study the current situation of knowledge
management of public interest organizations for elderly citizen in local community context, to develop
an innovative model of knowledge management for elderly, and to evaluate the feasibility of the
model by using Songkhla province as a case study. Mixed method research was applied to the study
as the following : a quantitative research method was undertaken; a survey questionnaire was used to
collect the data of on-going knowledge management of public interest organizations in the province
and challenging issues. In addition, the qualitative data was collected by interviewing with key
informants to explore in-depth the critical issues for developing the innovative model effective for
knowledge management in the local context. The subjects for data collection consisted of the
organizational administrators, the elderly members and other stakeholders who had attended activities
in knowledge management with public interest organizations. The subjects were purposive selected
from 5 public interest organizations listed in Songkhla province with consistent service knowledge
management for elderly for at least 2 years continuingly, namely the Healthy Elderly Club Nam Noi,
the Elderly Club Baan Suan Son, the Elderly Club Hat Yai Municipality, the Elderly Club Khun Taut
Wai Sub-district, and the Elderly Club Wang Yai Sub-district Administrative Organization. The data
was analyzed and used to create a model of knowledge management practical for senile citizen in the
according area and evaluated by the experts. The results of study showed that the knowledge
management for elderly person was necessary for improving quality of life and required by the local
community. The study unfolded that there were issues of how to be beneficial of existing knowledge
and the obstacle in accessing the required knowledge for elderly persons. The effective model of
knowledge management suitable for elderly persons found in this study is NHC-SPEC model,
namely: N - Nursing service, H - Home Healthcare, C - Community care, S-Skill development, P-Platform creation, E-Push to Effect, C- Expand to Cover. The model can facilitate community
engagement and self-efficacy development in the elderly, leading to the creation of social innovation
that fulfill the need of society for the elderly’s quality of life.
