Abstract
This research aims to reduce the number of damaged cans in
warehouse department of Siam International Food Company Limited at least 10%. The research applied QC story approach along with quality tools to identify the root causes of the problems in order to improve product quality to meet the target. The 9-months data (January to September 2018) was collected, then it was used to analyze and to compare with the after improvement results. The research started with an analysis of the problem by applying 7 QC tools. Then follow these steps: prioritized the problem-solving based on 3 factors, including 1) possibility to solve the problem, 2) severity of the problem, and 3) frequency of the problems. After that, the fishbone diagram was employed to analyze the causes of problem, the IE techniques were applied to improve the process, finally the after improvement results and based data were compared.
It was found that the number of damaged cans in store department was reduced from 1,103 ppm to 980 ppm, or 11% reduction, while the number of damaged cans in labeling department was reduced from 868 ppm to 423 ppm, or 51% decrease. It can be concluded that generally the damaged can be shrunk using QC story approach.
