Abstract
This study aims to accomplish four objectives: 1) to study the level of public participation in the progress towards a smart city in Nakhon Si Thammarat city municipality, 2) to compare public participation in the progress towards a smart city in Nakhon Si Thammarat city municipality based on demographic factors, 3) to explore the influence of perceptions about smart cities on public participation in the progress towards a smart city in Nakhon Si Thammarat city municipality, and 4) to explore the influence of attitudes towards smart cities on public participation in the progress towards a smart city in Nakhon Si Thammarat city municipality. The sample for this study comprises 537 residents aged 18 years and above, residing in the Nakhon Si Thammarat municipality, Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province. The population is divided proportionally by zones, and participants are selected using a convenience sampling method. This quantitative research employs a survey questionnaire with a 5-point Likert scale as its primary instrument. Statistical analyses used in this study include frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, F-test (one-way ANOVA), Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis.
The findings reveal that public participation in the progress towards a smart city in Nakhon Si Thammarat city municipality is at a high level. When examining specific aspects, the highest average level of public participation is observed in the domain of benefit reception, followed by participation in task execution, participation in monitoring and evaluating outcomes, and participation in decision-making, respectively. The study also discovers that public participation levels in the progress towards a smart city in Nakhon Si Thammarat city municipality vary significantly based on age and average monthly income, with statistical significance at the .05 level. Furthermore, perceptions and attitudes about smart cities are significant factors influencing public participation in Nakhon Si Thammarat city municipality's smart city development, with statistical significance at the .05 level.
