The influence and localization of Mazu: A Comparison between Penang and Phuket

Abstract

This research mainly studies the influence and localization of Mazu: a comparison between Penang and Phuket. The purpose of study 1. study the dissemination of traditional Chinese Mazu culture in Phuket and Penang. 2. study the spread process of Mazu in Malaysia and Thailand, and explore the localization differences of Mazu in the spread. 3. to Analyze the impact of Mazu culture on Phuket and Penang. Mazu culture is now globalized as goddess of the sea. The focus of this study is the impact of Mazu's arrival in Penang and Phuket, and localization has occurred. This study uses qualitative research and data analysis using content analysis, thematic analysis and historical analysis. The researcher found that Phuket Mazu has a more far-reaching influence and a wider range of influences than Penang Mazu. From the historical perspective, cultural integration, value and other aspects. In Phuket Mazu has received wider recognition. However, there are some differences between the two places, but they both show strong and long-lasting traces in history. Cultural and social factors have influenced overseas Chinese to adapt the Mazu culture. Nevertheless, the Mazu culture in both Phuket and Penang is a cultural treasure of the overseas Chinese diaspora.
