Epidemiology of Reported Adverse Drug Reactions Due to Anti-infectives in Thailand

Abstract

Adverse drug reactions (ADRs), which can occur in any drug class and are a leading cause of morbidity and hospitalization worldwide, remain a public health issue. Anti-infective drugs cause most ADRs. Longer length of stay due to serious ADRs can result in fatal outcomes with limited studies on serious ADRs and anti-infective patterns in Thailand. The purpose of this study was to understand the patterns of anti-infective-induced ADRs in Thailand and to identify predisposing factors associated with serious ADRs. We conducted a retrospective study using data from Thai Vigibase, a national database that documents anti-infective-induced ADRs across Thailand's 77 provinces from January 2012 to December 2021. We conducted an analysis using frequencies and percentages to determine the distribution of anti-infective-induced ADR reports and their seriousness. We employed chi-square tests and logistic regression to assess the association.
