Abstract

The objective of this study was to develop the structural equation model of factors predicting behavior in management of the used batteries from households: a case study of Hat - Yai city municipality, Hat Yai district, Songkhla province. The sample group consisted of 450 households recruited by using multi-stage random sampling and the research instrument was the structured questionnaire (one/multiple choice and rating scale). Data were analyzed with frequency, percentage, min-max, mean, standard deviation, measurement modeling and structural equation modeling. Six latent variables were measured from 15 observed variables. The latent variables are 1) used battery managing behavior 2) environmentally friendly battery buying behavior 3) intention to buy environmentally friendly batteries 4) intention to manage used batteries 5) household factor and 6) environment factor. The study found that the level of behavior in management of the used batteries from household in Hat Yai city municipality was at sometimes level. It was found that the mean was 2.63, standard deviation was 0.96. The structural equation modeling of factors predicting behavior in management used batteries from household was well fitted to empirical data (Chi-Square- 369.74, df - 76, p-value - 0.000, x2/df- 4.87, CFI = 0.95, NNFI - 0.91, SRMR 0.07 and RMSEA = 0.09). Environmentally friendly battery buying behavior was directly influenced by intention to buy environmentally friendly batteries, household factor and environmental factor with the path coefficient values of 0.43, 0.33 and 0.15, respectively. For the used battery, the managing behavior was directly influenced by intention to manage used batteries, environmental factor and household factor with the path coefficient values 0.44, 0.35 and 0.29, respectively. Intention to buy environmentally friendly batteries factor, household factor and environmentally factor were explained by the variance of environmentally friendly battery buying behavior at the percentage of 56 and the intention to manage used batteries factor, household factor and environmentally factor were explained by the variance of used battery managing behavior at the percentage of 79.
