Abstract

This study aimed to explore the reflection of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy in the Language for Life Series �Pasa Patee� of the Thai language textbooks at elementary levels 1-6 through the main male characters in the textbooks. The data used for this study was collected from 88 narratives from the Language for Life Series �Pasa Patee� of the Thai language textbooks at elementary levels 1-6. The literature review was conducted, and the results of the study were reported using descriptive analysis, followed by a summary and discussion of the results.The results of the study revealed that the textbooks reflect the three pillars of the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy as follows: 1. moderation, or the concept of living life in moderation, without extravagance, and with self-reliance; 2. reasonableness, or the concept of carefulness and using the intellect to consider the consequences of one�s actions carefully; and 3. self-immunity, or the concept of preparedness for the impacts caused by life changes. In addition to the three pillars, the textbooks also cover two main conditions of the philosophy: 1. knowledge, including 1.1) living life carefully and 1.2) living life knowledgeably; and 2. virtue, including 2.1) living life with honesty, 2.2) living life with perseverance and patience, 2.3) living life with mindfulness and wisdom, and 2.4) living by sharing.In terms of knowledge, the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy as reflected in the textbooks is a solid foundation for solving problems under various changes in the era of globalization.
