Abstract
The predictive research aimed to study the level of happiness and
factors influencing happiness among pregnant women. The sample consisted of 240 pregnant women who visited antenatal clinics at Hatyai Hospital and Songkla Hospital. The research instruments comprised 8 questionnaires: (1) personal Information, (2) happiness during pregnancy scored on a scale of 19-76, (3) personality, (4) self- esteem, (5) pregnancy intention, (6) attitude toward pregnancy, (7) marital relationship, and (8) social support during pregnancy. The content validity of questionnaires number 2-8 was judged by three experts. The reliability of questionnaires were tested using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, yielding values of .86, .79, 81, .75, .78, 90 and .89 respectively. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The predictability was analyzed using standard multiple regression analysis.
The result showed that happiness of pregnant women was at a high level (M = 58.92, SD = 6.28). Regression modeling showed that pregnancy intention, personality, attitude toward pregnancy, social support during pregnancy, and self- esteem could explain 70% of the variance of happiness of pregnant women (Adjusted R2 = .70, p < .001). However, marital relationship could not predict happiness among pregnant women. The results of this study could be used as basic information to develop nursing programs to promote happiness among pregnant women.
