Abstract
The objective of this research was to explore various strategies employed to convey the depression of the female protagonist who suffered from depression and committed suicide in Ban Khon Nok, the novel based on a deceased person’s biography. As documentary research, Krisna Asoksin’s novel Ban Khon Nok composed in 2002 was examined. Based on the original novel, psychological concepts were employed for data analysis and interpretation. After that, the data were presented in a descriptive and analytical form.
According to the results, the novel employs two strategies to convey the depression of the female protagonist. The first strategy is employed to convey the female protagonist’s depression through her ambitions. This strategy consists of three sub-strategies, including one indicating the beginning of her depression and mental wound, one indicating her entry to depression, and one indicating the end of her life from depression.
The second strategy is employed to convey the female protagonist’s mental health problems and depression symptoms. Like the first strategy, this strategy is divided into three sub-strategies, one depicting her mental health problems, one depicting her depression, and one depicting her suicide and the critical point of depressed patients.
By conducting this research, the researcher has become aware that disappointment in life could result in suicide, which is the problem the author discovered in the funeral memorial book of Mrs. Kledkaew Kitibut. This awareness will indeed encourage people in society to tackle problems in their lives more carefully.
