Abstract
The study aimed to develop indicators and examine the consistency
of the structural relationship model of competency indicators for register nurses of Songklanagarind Hospital with empirical data. The study was conducted with 507 register nurses with at least 1 year experience. The questionnaire was tested for its content validity by seven experts, and its reliability was 0.968. The data were analyzed using percentage, mean and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA).
The study found that the competency indicators for register nurses consisted of seven factors and 44 indicators. (1) Leadership, management and quality control; (2) communication and relationship consisted of nine and four indicators, respectively. These two factors had the highest weight (b=.71), followed by (3) academics and research (b=.66) consisted of five indicators. (4) Professional features (b=.59) consisted of ten indicators. (5) Nursing and midwifery practice (b=53) consisted of four indicators. (6) Ethics, code of conduct, and law (b=.48) consisted of seven indicators; and (7) Information technology and social aspect (b=.42) consisted of five indicators. The linear structural model of competency indicators for register nurses of Songklanagarind Hospital was significantly consistent with the empirical data at the level of .01.
The findings could be used by those involved in nursing human resources administration as guidelines for competency development for register nurses or performance evaluation.
