Abstract

This study is qualitative research to 1) examine the cultural tourism resources in Plai Phraya Subdistrict, Plai Phraya District, Krabi Province; 2) examine the potential of the cultural tourism resources in Plai Phraya Subdistrict, Plai Phraya District, Krabi Province and 3) propose a development guideline for the cultural tourism resources in Plai Phraya Subdistrict, Plai Phraya District, Krabi Province. This study collected data from semi-structured interviews, surveys, and participatory and non-participatory observation of the key informants selected from the persons related to the Plai Phraya Subdistrict for suggestions and exchange. The key informants were 34 persons organized in four groups: 1) two from the subdistrict administration; 2) five were leadership representatives in the Plai Phraya Subdistrict; 3) 19 were community representatives and 4) eight tourists and accommodation entrepreneurs.The study showed that there were 23 cultural tourism resources in Plai Phraya Subdistrict, Plai Phraya District, Krabi Province, and the potential of the cultural tourism resources in Plai Phraya Subdistrict, Plai Phraya District, Krabi Province was found to be in five aspects: 1) value; 2) accessibility; 3) amenities; 4) environment; 5) tourist capacity. There was a limited number of restaurants and accommodations that required advanced booking, and only one accommodation was visible. The one accommodation was a private property and thus an appointment was necessary. Some areas are also located far from the fire station, police station, and hospital. All areas in the district were found to have no public transportation. The development guideline for cultural tourism resources in Plai Phraya Subdistrict, Plai Phraya District, Krabi Province was developed by using the SWOT analysis, pairing the data with the internal and external environment factors to set the SO (Strengths - Opportunities), WO (Weakness � Opportunities), ST (Strengths - Threats), and WT (Weakness - Threats), and then summarized and presented as four strategies and five guidelines. The first guideline was improving the tourism potential in the Plai Phraya Subdistrict. The second guideline was improving the tourism quality in the Plai Phraya Subdistrict through strategy analysis. The third guideline was building confidence and generating interest in tourism in Plai Phraya Subdistrict. The fourth guideline was tourism preparation, and the last was building amenities for the tourists.
