Abstract

The purpose of this research were to 1) study the collaborative circumstances that public, private, and nonprofit sectors interacted to managing Community Based Tourism 2) survey the level of trust and communication including level of collaboration across organizations and 3) examine the influence of trust and communication on such collaboration. A Mixed Methods, exploratory sequential design, was employed. The study is conducted into two phases. The first phase was qualitative study include observation, documentary review, and in-depth interview with 15 key informants. The second phase is quantitative study. On the basis of survey approach, 94 qualified participants from public and private sectors including civil society, were enquired. The research instruments used in this study were questionnaire for qualitative research and the semi- structure interview for qualitative research. While qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis, descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were used to analyze the quantitative data. The qualitative study revealed that multi-actor from public, private, and nonprofit sectors hardly worked together in planning, decision making process, resource allocation and evaluation. The trust among them was critical. These results of qualitative research is consistent with quantitative research results containing moderate level of trust and low level of collaboration. The degree of communication across organizations was also low. In addition, it was found that trust and communication have a positive effect, which is statistically significant at 0.01, on the collaboration between the sectors.
