Abstract
This action research aimed to develop a management surveillance of
bacteremia model for leukemia patients and evaluate the outcome of the management surveillance model in the Hemato-Oncology ward Suratthani Hospital.
The 25 participants included the infection control committee and healthcare workers involved in bacteremia surveillance. Kemmis & McTaggart's action research design was used including 2 cycles of 4-phase implement, which were planning, action, observation and refection. Data were collected by semi-structured interview and observation record. Qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis and quantitative observation record was analyzed by frequency and percentage.
Result of study showed that:
1. A. management surveillance of bacteremia model involving multidisciplinary team was composed of 4 elements: 1) planning among the multidisciplinary team,
2) responsibility, 3) communication, and 4) controlling. This model was implemented into practice following the guideline in 4 phases: 1) admission, 2) low immunity,
3) bacteremia, and 4) discharge.
2. The outcome of Surveillance Bacteremia Management Model was followed by 98.5% of practitioners overall, and by 100% in admission phase, by 96.4% in low immunity phase, by 97.2% in bacteremia phase, and by 100% in discharge phase.
The model developed in this study could be used to manage surveillance of
bacteremia in other similar contexts.
