Abstract

This research employed mixed methods with a multi-stage design of three phases. Phase 1: Qualitative research starting with in-depth interview, participant and non-participant observation participated by 52 informants to understand the context of sustainability management of Khlong Na Thap Coastal Fishing Boats Association. Then, applied Delphi technique was employed to collect data using a questionnaire from 11 experts to validate the qualitative data. Phase 2: Quantitative research in which a questionnaire designed after qualitative data were collected was used to collect data from the population who were subjects involved with Khlong Na Thap Coastal Fishing Boats Association. For multiple regression analysis, the sample size of 20 times 1 variable totaling 160 persons were selected through systematic sampling. Phase 3: Qualitative research in which the data collected from Phase 1 and Phase 2 were further explored using focus group discussions to obtain guidelines for sustainable development of Khlong Na Thap Coastal Fishing Boats Association. The study found that the management of Khlong Na Thap Coastal Fishing Boats Association according to analysis of the data collected from in-depth interviews and responses from the experts had five aspects: leadership, participation, organizational competency, communication technology, and networking. Three sustainable aspects were found: environment, society, and economy. After that, these data were used to form a questionnaire from which it was found that management factors of Khlong Na Thap Coastal Fishing Boats Association which were organizational competencies and networking could predict sustainability of the association. This will lead to sustainability of Khlong Na Thap Coastal Fishing Boats Association and its work that will be continuous and with highest efficiency, and effectiveness.
