Abstract

This study of Before-After research design aimed to describe the accidents of the staff whose jobs related to driving or riding, in order to create a format and test the safety standard of working of those staff, and to describe the staff's characteristics that related to the accident itself. The population of this research was purposive sampling of total 85 sales staff in the warehouse of a company in Phuket. The tools of the study were questionnaires and group discussions. The statistics used in this study was the descriptive statistics, e.g. percentile. There were total of 73 staff (85.88% of the population) participated the research, which included of 31.50% as Pre-sell staff, 26.03 % as D-man staff (drivers), and 42.47% as D-man assistants. Most of the population, at 94.52%, was male. Suggestions from the focus group discussions to help develop the format of the accident prevention were to improve staff recruitment to reduce conflicts in working together. From the accident investigations, it was found that the staff's being unaccustomed of the "unsafet act caused most of the accidents. The accidents rate so far was 53.33%. Most of the staff (43.84 %) had a characteristic of high consciousness in their job responsibility and their discipline. As from exploring the areas around Phuket to see risky areas, there were total of 220 danger points, and they were added to total of 32 maps of danger areas with accidents warnings. Then, the WI and SOP were edited and improved by forming teams based on staff's similar characteristics, using the accidents warning maps to train the staff on accident prevention before they started working, and attaching the map in their car so those staff who were not accustomed to the directions could have the map as a guide and beware of the danger points as displayed on the map. After intervention progam was implemented, the accident rate in the year 2018 had reduced 33.33% from the previous year. The expenses from road accidents reduced from the year 2016 at 45,905 Baht, and overall expense that had been reduced is 1,129,766 Baht. The causes of the accidents were 66.67% from "Unsafe Conditions" while 33.33% from the "Unsafe Acts". This research concluded that each person's characteristics should also be considered when forming a team of co-workers, and that the content of the staff trainings should be improved and related to the attendants' interest in order to also improve WI and SOP to be up-to-date.
