Abstract

The research aimed; to analyzing the meanings given of a qualified physicist and causal influencing qualified physicist of physics students in Thailand. Conduct research using a mixed research method. In the first phase use a qualitative study to understand a physicist and the factors enhancing towards qualified physicist. using key informant interview with the semi-structured questions. The key informants were 24 persons: 7 physics lecturers, 6 physicists, 7 physics teachers, and 4 physics laboratory personnel. The study revealed that qualified physicist is attribute appeared study behavior natural phenomena, and ability create knowledge in physics through scientific processes morally and ethically under the identity of a person with a good attitude towards physics according models of physicists, both theoretical physicists and experimental physicists. The factors enhancing towards qualified physicist are classified into 2 factors 1) the internal factors including (1) good attitude towards physics and (2) experiences in Sciences and Mathematics; and 2) the external factors including (1) high school physics teacher support, (2) Physics lecturers’ role, (3) model in teaching and learning physics, (4) opportunities in Physics academic, and (5) the characteristics of a role model in physics. The second phase of the quantitative study was purpose of this study was to causal factor affecting of Qualified Physicist of physics students in Thailand. The samples were 700 junior-senior, physics students. In this research, there were a total of 837 online respondents, divided into 417 education and 420 science students. Data was collected using an questionnaire which consisted of 3 parts: general information, Qualified Physicist, and the factors that influenced Qualified Physicist. Path analysis of the structural equation model using PLS-SEM. The results show that 11 paths were statistically significant. There are 5 factors has a positive influence on the Qualified Physicist statistically significant at the level of .01 were: Good attitude towards physics, Experiences in Sciences and Mathematics, Opportunities in Physics academic, Model in teaching and learning physics. and the characteristics of a role model in physics. The results of the Importance-performance matrix analysis has found that > .15 and > 70% for all 6 factors, except the characteristics of a role model in physics.
