Abstract
Application of GIS and Remote Sensing for Lanslide and Risk in Khaoluang Mountain Range in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The purposes of this study are 1.) Identify hazard areas and risk areas for Khaoluang Mountain Range in Nakhon Si Thammarat. 2.) Compare the potential for landslides between the eastern part of Khaoluang Mountain in Nopphitam district and the western part in Phipoon district and 3.) Provide information and suggestions to communities in Khaoluang Mountain area in Nakhon Si Thammarat. The study method used GIS for data analysis. ArcGIS 9.2 Tools were used to overlay 7 factors including to rainfall, land use, traces, slope, contour and steam. The weighting and rating of the seven factors were determined.
The results of this study can be divided into three levels of risk areas for landslides; high moderate and low. The area is 0.16 squarekilometers, 3.30 squarekilometers and 0.53 squarekilometers, respectively and accounted for 4.01, 82.70, 13.29 percent of the total area. In this study the Khaoluang Mountain Range is divided into two sides: the east and west. In the western part of Khaoluang Mountain range, there is a higher risk areas of landslides than in the east. It is located in Pippoon District and Chawang District of Khaoluang Mountain range. The most risk factors for landslides are rainfall, landuse changes, and the past traces. The study can provide sustainable resource management at the governmental level, local government and community organizations. Monitoring of risk and surveillance for landslide potential in Khaoluang Mountain Range in Nakhon Sri Thammarat is ocucial for protecting from hazard.
