Abstract
The objectives of this mixed method research were to assess an impact of
Songkhla food strategy's activities to promote nutritional status of children from newborn to 12 years old, and to develop an operating framework to promote healthy nutrition on a sub-district
level. Four steps of the health impact assessment were employed: public screening, public scoping, assessment, and public review. Quantitative and qualitative data was collected between August 2018 - April 2019 in Kuanroo and Chalae sub-districts by in-depth interviews, questionnaires and observation. Content validity of a research instrument was measured to be
0.98. Research participants included 456 parents, 15 teachers, 20 students, and 21 steering committees. Descriptive statistic and content analysis were used to analyze the data.
The study found that the promotional activities enhanced the caregiver and the children's knowledge on nutrition as well as improved the school food environment. However, there was little impact on the cooking skill of caregivers, nutritional knowledge and healthy food environment of the community. The percentages of stunt, underweight, and overweight children
decreased. Therefore, the guidance on strengthening community action and building healthy public policy was added to the operating framework. Health charters were used to expand nutritional knowledge and to implement healthier food environment in the community in order to continuously promote the children's nutritional health.
