Abstract

The purposes of this research are, firstly, to compare the effectiveness of academic journal administration among organizatios across Thailand and, secondly, to examine the factors that affect such effectiveness. Employee ability, budget management ability, availability of equipment and information technology, and coordination and follow-up ability were used as predictors or independent variables while the effectiveness of academic journal administration was used as the dependent variable. By using a survey questionnaire, data were collected from 208 organizatios administering academic journals listed in Thai-Journal Citation Index. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (Frequency, Percentage, Min, Max, Mean, and Standard Deviation) to understand the characteristics of survey respondents and the organizatios administering academic journals. Then, T-test and one-way ANOVA techniques were employed to analyze mean differences between 2 and among 3 groups of sample, respectively. Finally, relationships among selected variables were investigated using stepwise regression analysis technique. Results revealed that, firstly, mean differences of academic journal administration effectiveness did not vary by types and tiers (groups) of academic journals (at .05 significance level). Secondly, employee ability, budget management ability, and coordination and follow-up ability were found to be significant predictors of academic journal administration effectiveness (at .001 significance level) whereas the availability of equipment and information technology was not found to be a significant predictor of academic journal administration effectiveness in this study. Among the three significant predictors, follow-up ability had the most significant effect on academic journal administration effectiveness. Such findings indicated that the most important factor that enhanced the effectiveness of academic journal administration in Thailand was the ability of the organization and its staff in coordinating and following up the tasks. Therefore, the organizatios administering academic journals should develop well-established procedures for task coordination and following up as well as encourage their staff members to strictly follow such procedures if they want to be effective in administering academic journal administration functions.
