Abstract

The study on public expectation towards development policies and public participation among people in Kho Hong Municipality, Songkhla, aimed to 1) explore the level of public participation in Kho Hong Municipality, Songkhla, 2) compare public participation in Kho Hong Municipality, Songkhla, based on personal factors, and 3) examine the relationship between public expectation towards development policies and public participation among people in Kho Hong Municipality, Songkhla. The data were collected through a questionnaire distributed to 397 people aged 18 years and above living in Kho Hong Municipality, Songkhla. The collected data were then analyzed using statistical methods, including frequency distribution, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Other analyses were the comparison of the means of the sample, one-way ANOVA, paired t-test, and correlation analysis. The results revealed that public participation in Kho Hong Municipality, Songkhla, was at a high level. The comparison of public participation in Kho Hong Municipality, Songkhla, based on personal factors indicated that gender, education, career, income, residence area, and duration of living in the area significantly led to different levels of public participation in Kho Hong Municipality, Songkhla, at a significance level of .05. Regarding the analysis of the factors in public expectation towards development policies, it involved four aspects, namely transportation and infrastructure development; society, public health, and quality of life; environment; and management development. The variables showed that public expectation towards development policies had a positive relationship with public participation among people in Kho Hong Municipality, Songkhla.
