Abstract

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) explore the leadership characteristics and the career growth of LGBTQ employees based on personal characteristics, 2) understand the relationship between the characteristics of each type of leadership and the career growth, and 3) identify the obstacles that impede career growth of these LGBTQ employees. The samples were 384 LGBTQ employees working in the government agencies, state enterprises, and private organizations in Songkhla. The statistical tools used in the analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, F-test with One Way ANOVA, and Pearson Correlation Coefficient. The finding revealed that LGBTQ employees who earn a different level of salary and have a different work duration reflected a different level of attitude toward the leadership characteristics at the significant level of .05. On the other hand, LGBTQ employees who work in different types of organizations and have a different work duration resulted in a different level of career growth at the significant level of .05. The supportive leadership characteristics had a fairly low positive relationship with the career growth while the outward leadership, the achievementoriented leadership, and the participative leadership had a low positive relationship with the career growth at a significant level of .01. Additionally, the majority of the samples suggested the problems related to welfare policy that does not cover LGBTQ couples, followed by the opinion toward the LGBTQ personnel that was likely to be more emotional than rationally, and the perspective of the superiors toward the supporting LGBTQ personnel to promote to a higher position
