Abstract
Abstract
This quasi-experimental research aimed to test the effect of an educative program using multimedia integrating relative support on Postpartum Hemorrhage Preventive Behaviors in Primiparous Mothers. The sample consisted of 60 primiparous mothers attending the antenatal department at a community hospital in Yala Province between June 2020 and August 2020. Sixty participants who met the inclusion criteria were equally divided into an experimental group (30 subjects), who received the educative program using multimedia integrating relatives’ support, and a control group (30 subjects), who received usual nursing care. The instruments for data collection consisted of 2 parts: 1. The interventional instruments were (1) a teaching plan of postpartum hemorrhage prevention, and (2) multimedia of postpartum hemorrhage prevention. 2. The instruments for data collection consisted of (1) personal information for primiparous mothers questionnaire, (2) personal information for relatives questionnaire, (3) prevention behavior of postpartum hemorrhage assessment form consisted of three parts: (3.1) self-care behavior for prevention anemia during pregnancy for prevention postpartum hemorrhage questionnaire, (3.2) self-care behavior for prevention postpartum hemorrhage before childbirth observation, (3.3) self-care behavior for prevention postpartum hemorrhage during 2 hours after childbirth observation, (4) relatives’ support behavior for prevention of postpartum hemorrhage questionnaire, and (5) mother’s satisfaction with relatives’ caring behaviors for preventing postpartum hemorrhage questionnaire. Instruments were examined for content validity by 3 experts yielding content validity indices of .93, 1, .87, .93, and 1, respectively. The reliability of self-care behavior for prevention anemia during pregnancy for prevention postpartum hemorrhage questionnaire, the relatives’ support behavior for prevention of postpartum hemorrhage questionnaire, and the mother’s satisfaction with relatives’ caring behaviors for preventing postpartum hemorrhage questionnaire using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient yielded values of .89, .83, and .85, respectively. The observations of self-care behavior for prevention postpartum hemorrhage before childbirth and self-care behavior for prevention postpartum hemorrhage during 2 hours after childbirth observation using Inter-rater reliability yielded a value equal to .87, respectively. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation for demographic data, and the hypotheses were tested using the independent t-test.
The results revealed that the experimental group after receiving the educative program using multimedia integrating relatives’ support had a mean score of postpartum hemorrhage preventive behaviors (M = 30.23, SD = 2.40) significantly higher than the control group (M = 26.93, SD = 1.96) (p < .01)
The results showed that the educative program using multimedia integrating relatives’ support can promote postpartum hemorrhage prevention behavior in primiparous mothers, and its use should be promoted among pregnant women and postpartum mothers to reduce the risk of postpartum hemorrhage.
