Abstract

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to 1) examine the demographic data of agricultural extension officers performing with the Small and Micro Community Enterprise (SMCE) promotion in southern regions of Thailand, 2) examine the performance of SMCE promotion of agricultural extension officers in southern regions of Thailand, 3) examine the motivation of performance of SMCE of agricultural extension officers in southern regions of Thailand, and 4) analyze factors related with motivation level of performance of SMCE promotion of agricultural extension officers in southern regions of Thailand. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. A group of a population composed of 1 agricultural extension officer/district for the total of those from 111 districts which covered the whole provinces in the southern regions. Statistics used for data analysis were descriptive statistics and the chi-square test. Results of this study revealed that most of the agricultural extension officers performing with SMCE promotion in southern regions of Thailand were male (82.9%) with an average age of 40 years old, were Buddhists (75.7%), took a position as agricultural extension officer at practitioner level (53.2%), and had experiences with SMCE promotion for an average at 4 years 1 month. For the performance with SMCE promotion in the southern regions, the study found that most agricultural extension officers (91.9%) performed with basic information of SMCE which the second most was transferring knowledge and technology (91.0%). For coordination with related organization units, the study indicated that agricultural extension officers (80.2%) performed this job. For motivation of performance of SMCE promotion of agricultural extension officers, the study found that the overall of motivation was rated at a high level (µ = 3.89) which those rated at high motivation levels were responsibility (µ = 4.12), policy and management (µ = 4.04), and recognition and job security (µ = 4.03), respectively For motivation rated at moderate level was working environment (µ = 3.37). For factors that had a relationship with motivation level of performance of SMCE promotion, the study indicated that government serving time and holding position level had relationships with motivation level for the performance of SMCE promotion of agricultural extension officers with statistical significance at 0.05. This study suggested that 1) there should have knowledge management in working units of district agricultural extensions to let agricultural extension officers perform SMCE promotion be able to replace job performance among each other, 2) agricultural extension officers should integrate SMCE promotion with the private sector or business sector to develop the potential of SMCE group for another performance option, 3) agricultural extension officers who have government serving time more than 1 - 5 years should have the responsibility of SMCE promotion. This should be urged their determination to build contributions, and 4) agricultural extension officers who hold position at practitioner level should have responsibility with community business promotion This should be urged for submitting higher position.
