Abstract

This study aimed to assess the knowledge about prediabetes, overweight and obesity among individuals that underwent proactive health screening and were diagnosed with prediabetes. This study was conducted through the use of close-ended question to collect the data from 2 sample groups, namely; sample group of 53 individuals that underwent proactive health screening and were diagnosed with prediabetes and sample group of 53 individuals who were not diagnosed with prediabetes, during an interval of 1 – 31 July 2020. Hence, the data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (Independent-Sample T Test) This study showed that 43.4% of individuals with prediabetes and 30.19% of individual without prediabetes were diagnosed with obesity, respectively. For the knowledge about prediabetes among individuals with prediabetes and individuals without prediabetes, the results showed that the mean scores were at 6.28±2.37 and 6.30±2.60 of the total score of 13, respectively. For the knowledge about overweight and obesity among individuals with prediabetes and individuals without prediabetes, the study found that the mean scores were at 2.77±1.28 and 2.39±1.36 of the total score of 10, respectively. The comparison between the mean scores of knowledge about prediabetes, overweight and obesity among individuals with prediabetes and individuals without prediabetes revealed no difference. The result of this study showed that answers from both sample groups are mostly inaccurate.
