Abstract

This research aimed to reduce a loss of plastic cup packaging in animal feed production by 15%. The study sta. by analyzing the previous data (2016-2018) relating with the loss of packaging in animal feed processing. There are three forms of the pet food packaging including bags, cans, and plastic cups. The result shown that, among three forms of packaging losses, the highest loss was the plastic cups. The Pareto chart was employed to analyze the significant problems, it was found that the main problems were incomplete sealing strip, cup dent, incomplete film and broken cup, respectively. Consequently, the problems were then analyzed and identified by using the fish bone diagram as well as Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) to find out the root causes of the problems. The risk priority number (RPN) score which was over 50% were selected to be the cause of the problem. After that the main causes that generate wastes were delivered into improvement process by using appropriated manners. In addition, the quality control approach (Plan-Do-Check-Action: PDCA cycle) was used to control the process. The results indicate that amount of waste of plastic cup packaging was reduced from 2,553 ppm to 1,687 ppm, which is representing 28% reduction. On the other hand, cost of plastic cup packaging was reduced 150,844 baht per year.
