Abstract
The objectives of this study were 1) to study the level of transformational leadership of the Mayor of Hat Yai City Municipality, 2) to study the level of result-based management of the Mayor of Hat Yai City Municipality and 3) to study the effects of transformational leadership on result-based management of the Mayor of Hat Yai City Municipality. This study is a qualitative research. The questionnaire was used as a research instrument in collecting data from 341 employees of Hat Yai City Municipality, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province. The statistics used in data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and stepwise multiple regression analysis.
The results showed that 1) all 4 components of transformational leadership, which are idealized influence (X̅ = 4.18), inspirational motivation (X̅ = 4.15), intellectual stimulation (X̅ = 4.12) and individual consideration (X̅ = 4.13) were at a high level; 2) the result-based management (X̅ = 4.08) was also at a high level and 3) the effects of all 4 components transformational leadership on result-based management, in descending order, were as follows: intellectual stimulation (B = 0.320), individual consideration (B = 0.235), idealized influence (B = 0.205) and inspirational motivation (B = 0.137), respectively, at a statistical significance level of 0.05. According to the findings, the mayor should build confidence in solving problems and the subordinates should be encouraged to learn a joint problem-solving approach to lead to effective management in the future.
