Abstract

This study aimed to (1) analyze student behaviors reflecting mathematical analytical thinking skills during their participation in open approach-based learning processes, and (2) compare students' mathematical analytical thinking skills before and after participating in open approach-based instruction. The target group consisted of 16 Grade 3 students at Panyawit School, Mueang District, Pattani Province, during the first semester of the 2024 academic year. The participants were purposively selected from the class taught by the researcher. The research instruments included (1) seven open approach-based lesson plans, (2) in-class activity worksheets, (3) behavioral model and (4) a 25-item analytical thinking skills test. Basic data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, t-test, and normalized gain scores. The research findings were as follows (1)The analysis of behaviors reflecting mathematical analytical thinking skills during the open approach-based learning process revealed that students demonstrated continuous and diverse development in analytical thinking skills. These included classification, categorization, reasoning, application, and prediction skills.These behaviors were clearly observable during self-directed learning, group discussions, and idea comparison activities. (2) Students� mathematical analytical thinking skills after instruction were significantly higher than before at the .01 level of significance.
