Abstract

The purposes of this research are 1) to analyze the factors affecting the research conducting motivation among supporting staff, 2) to investigate the research conducting motivation among supporting staff, and 3) to examine the guidelines for supporting staff development in research. Independent variables included education level, knowledge, research attitude, job responsibilities, research environment, and faculty/institutional support. The dependent variable was the research conducting motivation among supporting staff. Data were collected by survey questionnaire from 128 faculty or institution supporting staff in the humanities and social sciences disciplines at the Prince of Songkla University, Hatyai campus. Results revealed that the research attitude and job responsibilities affected research conducting motivation among supporting staff. However, education level, knowledge, research environment, and support from faculties/institutions do not affect such motivation. Nonetheless, authorities should also take into consideration these variables. In this regard, faculties/institutes and universities can use this research as a guideline for planning and training to improve their supporting staff's knowledge, talents, and capabilities for conducting research and fostering motivation in the future.
