Abstract

This research presents the application of geophysical methods: two-dimensional electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), ground penetrating radar (GPR), and seismic to study the physical properties and subsurface structures for analyzing a potential of natural resources and soil-rock structures for geotechnical engineering in Songkhla Province. The study consists of 3 case studies: 1) to investigate the sand deposit for construction material and industrial purposes in Kamphaeng Phet Sub-district, Rattaphum District, using the ERT method; 2) to explore the subsurface soil-rock structure in the construction project area of the radio telescope control building at the Chalermprakiat Observatory, Khao Rup Chang Sub-district, Mueang District, using the ERT method. This result will be used to improve the building plan design to be consistent with soil-rock structure data, which is a very important part of foundation engineering; and 3) Integrity examination of the ballast layer under the railway track in Tha-Chang Sub-district, Bang Klam District, using the GPR method and seismic method. The results of the study indicate the potential of the selected geophysical methods in the 3 case studies, which can be implemented efficiently, reducing costs, time, and providing data to help in planning infrastructure development and sustainable resource management in the long term.
