Abstract

background:%20Electronic%20academic%20materials%20are%20now%20widely%20used%20in%20medical%20education.%20The%20impact%20compared%20with%20traditional%20printed%20materials%20should%20be%20evaluated.%0AObjective%3A%20This%20paper%20aims%20to%20assess%20the%20use%20of%20electronic%20materials%20and%20printed%20materials%20with%20objective%20measures%20that%20include%20reading%20comprehension,%20memory,%20and%20satisfaction.%0AMethods%3A%20Second-year%20medical%20students%20of%20Prince%20of%20Songkla%20University%20who%20voluntarily%20participated%20in%20the%20study%20were%20randomized%20into%202%20groups.%20The%20first%20group%20of%20students%20was%20assigned%20to%20read%20an%20academic%20article%20from%20a%20tablet%20and%20the%20second%20group%20read%20the%20same%20article%20in%20a%20printed%20hard-copy%20format.%20Both%20groups%20also%20read%20a%20second%20article%20in%20the%20alternative%20format%20from%20the%20first%20material%20they%20received.%20Reading%20comprehension,%20memory,%20and%20satisfaction%20were%20assessed%20using%20pre-test,%20post-test,%20and%20questionnaires.%0AResults%3A%20A%20total%20of%2038%20second-year%20medical%20students%20were%20randomly%20assigned%20to%0Aeither%20group%20(n%20=%2019%20in%20each%20group).%20There%20were%20no%20significant%20differences%20between%0Athe%20groups%20in%20baseline%20characteristics%20or%20pre-test%20scores%20(P%20=%200.8%20and%200.65,%0Arespectively).%20Both%20groups%20had%20significantly%20greater%20post-test%20scores%20than%20pre-test%20(P%20%3C%0A0.01),%20but%20no%20significant%20differences%20between%20the%20groups%20(P%20=%200.91%20and%200.93,%0Arespectively).%20The%20printed%20materials%20were%20more%20familiar%20to%20use%20and%20caused%20significantly%20less%20muscle%20and%20eye%20fatigue.%20However,%20electronic%20materials%20provided%20clearer%20pictures%20and%20were%20more%20convenient%20to%20carry.%20Eventually,%20the%20students%20chose%20equally%20both%20formats%20as%20their%20preferences. conclusion:%20Among%20the%20medical%20students,%20there%20were%20no%20significant%20differences%20in%20reading%20comprehension,%20memory%20or%20preferences%20in%20the%20use%20of%20electronic%20materials%20or%20printed%20materials. conclusion:%20Among%20the%20medical%20students,%20there%20were%20no%20significant%20differences%20in%20reading%20comprehension,%20memory%20or%20preferences%20in%20the%20use%20of%20electronic%20materials%20or%20printed%20materials.
