Abstract
Many technologies are nowadays moving towards to make easy ways to
measure accurate power meter. There are two types of main waveforms (i.e. voltage and current waveform) are crucial to calculate power consumption in the smart meter system. The main aim of the smart meter makes users aware of the energy consumption on daily basis and to promote energy saving. As we knew that many proposed smart meters tried to obtain and create new methods, however, the majority acquire voltage waveform by cutting the cables. However, a number of research works proposed the concept of replacing the voltage transformer by the non-contact voltage sensor. The aim of this research is to study and develop a low-cost non-contact energy measurement system, which does not need any electrical contact with physical load or its conductor of power cables, obtain both voltage and current waveforms. We developed a contactless voltage sensor based on the parasitic capacitive-coupling technique. The proposed system achieved accurate power measurement, in fact, the error is approximately 2.5% compared with a standard wattmeter.
