| dc.description.abstract | The objective of this study is to characterize the halotolerant/halophilic fungi in solar saltern, Pattani province and to screen for their biological activities. A total of 85 fungal isolates were recovered from soil and water samples. These included 18 genera belonging to Aspergillus, Penicillium, Paecilomyces, Cladosporium, Bipolaris, Trichophyton, Aureobasidium, Beauveria, Geotrichum, Absidia, Rhizomucor, Gliocephalis, Basidiobolus, Humicola, Apophysomyces, Gliocladium, Oidium, and Blastomyces. Antimicrobial activity showed fungal activity against at least one human pathogen (Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, methicillin-resistant, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853). The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) were determined using the broth microdilution method. Four fungal isolates showed the best activity to inhibit Gram positive bacteria. For the halotolerance test, all isolates could grow on PDA with high 20 salt concentration and 4 isolates were halophilic fungi. The enzymatic activity test showed that most of the fungal isolates could produce amylase. | - |
