Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic is a critical global health situation. First-Line Nurse Administrators [FLNAs] perform important roles to manage the crisis in order to control and prevent harms for healthcare providers and clients. This descriptive research aimed to 1) study the levels of crisis management action [CMA] among FLNAs during the COVID-19 pandemic situation, and 2) compare the mean scores of CMA between groups of FLNAs. The study sample consisted of 168 FLNAs who worked for community hospitals in five border provinces was in Sothern Thailand and were selected by purposive sampling method, voluntarily. Data collection a conducted through self completed comprising two parts: a demographic and professional background and CMA part. the CMA questionnaire was approved by three experts, yielding the content validity index of .91. Its reliability was examined through Cronbrach’s alpha coefficient, giving a value of .96. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test and ANOVA. The study results revealed that the mean of total scores of CMA during the COVID-19 pandemic situation among FLNAs was at a high level (M = 4.01, SD = 0.68) The score of emergency response aspect was highest (M = 4.18, SD = 0.73) Two significant differences were found in the comparison between groups of different professional background. Firstly, a group of FLNAs who experienced crisis management planning with external agencies reported higher CMA score (t = 3.05, p < .01). than a group of FLNAs without this experience. Secondly, FLNAs who worked in different areas showed significant differences in CMA mean scores (F = 5.06, p < .05). These findings are useful for nursing administrators encounter who crisis situation in the future in order to decrease negative impacts and improve safety for both provider and client sides.
