Abstract
This qualitative research study aim to study the situation of physical activity of
employees and to study ways to encourage physical activity of employees in the
workplace which use a case study of Tha Chang Herbal Medicine Factory, Tha Chang
District, Surat Thani Province. Qualitative data was collected by interviewing two groups
of informants, 2 0 employees of Tha Chang herbal medicine factory and 1 0
steak-holders in the Tha Chang herbal medicine factory during January - May 2023.
Data were analyzed by content analysis.
Results of the study, the situation of physical activity of employees found that
most employees had moderate physical activity from Commute, work and recreation
accumulated less than 150 minutes / week. These physical situations were causing
employees to have insufficient physical activity. Individual factors Related to the level
of physical activity of employees including lack of knowledge and sedentary behavior.
Environmental factors include most employees going to work by using vehicles. They
have little walking. The factories and residential communities do not have spaces
conducive to physical activity. Mechanism factors for example, the factory does not
have a policy to support and promote sufficient physical activity. There is budget
constraint. In addition, the factory, department, or community do not interact together.
Resulting in a lack of mechanisms to integrate and work together in supporting and
promoting to make employees and people in the community have participated in
physical activities. Guidelines for promoting adequate physical activity of employees include
promoting knowledge, communication, public relations related to ergonomically
correct working postures, having a policy or agreement to increase activities to change
behavior. By giving each person a plan to change their own behavior. Workplace
environments should be created to increase physical activity consistent with
the nature of the job. Campaign to reduce sedentary behavior, budget planning, and
incentives to continually increase employees' adequate physical activity. Creation of
cooperation mechanisms with the community, various agencies to support physical
activity both at work and in the community. And there should be a monitoring and
evaluation system that can measure the results of increasing physical activity of
employees.
Suggestions for executives, steak-holders, and employees emphasis should be
placed on solving the problem of insufficient physical activity by having a policy, plan,
project, activity to encourage employees to have appropriate and adequate
physical activity.
