Abstract
Abstract
This was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-post test two group design. The
objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of implementing a clinical nursing practice guideline for dietary control on dietary control behavior and blood sugar level in Muslim patients with uncontrolled diabetes.
The study was conducted at Naradhiwasrajanagarindra hospital. 60 Muslim patients who could not control their blood sugar were recruited. The control group (n = 30) received usual nursing care, and the experimental group (n = 30) received the clinical nursing practice guideline for dietary control. The duration of this study was 8 weeks. The materials and methods of this study were: (1) Clinical nursing practice guideline for dietary control (2) Booklet to promote dietary control for Muslim patients with uncontrolled blood sugar, and (3) Education plan to promote dietary control. Data collection tools were: (1) Demographic and Health Data Collection Form, (2) Dietary Control Behavior Questionnaire and (3) Blood Sugar Measurement Tool. The reliability of the Dietary Control Behavior Questionnaire was verified by a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.80. The demographic and health data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and Chi-square. Mean score of the dietary control behavior and the blood sugar level before and after implementing the clinical nursing practice guideline for dietary control were compared by
using Paired t test, and the experimental group and the control group were compared by using
Independent t-test.
The study results were as follows:
1. Mean score of dietary control behavior in the experimental group after receiving the clinical nursing practice guideline for dietary control was significantly higher than before (p<
.001)
2. Mean score of dietary control behavior in the experimental group after receiving the clinical nursing practice guideline for dietary control was statistically higher than those in the control group (p < .001)
3. Mean score of blood sugar level in the experimental group after receiving the clinical nursing practice guideline for dietary control was significantly lower than before (p < .001)
4. Mean score of blood sugar level in the experimental group after receiving the clinical nursing practice guideline for dietary control was statistically lower than those in the control group (p < .001)
The findings of this study indicated that implementing the clinical nursing practice guideline for dietary control could improve dietary control behavior and reduce blood sugar level in Muslim patients with uncontrolled diabetes.
